AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Please read these guidelines carefully before submitting your manuscript to Catalyx : Journal of Process Chemistry and Technology. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript complies with the journal's scientific, technical, methodological, safety, ethical, reproducibility, and formatting requirements and contributes meaningfully to process chemistry and chemical technology scholarship.

✓ Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to confirm that their submission complies with all of the following requirements. Manuscripts that do not comply with these guidelines may be returned to the authors before peer review.

✓ Originality
The manuscript has not been published and is not under review or simultaneously submitted elsewhere. It must not contain plagiarism. A written statement of originality from the author(s) must be provided where required.
✓ Manuscript Length
The manuscript contains at least 4,000 words and does not exceed 8,000 words, including tables, figures, graphs, and references.
✓ Abstract
The abstract is written in English, consists of 150–250 words, is presented as a single continuous paragraph, and does not contain citations.
✓ File and Journal Template
The manuscript is submitted in Microsoft Word format and has been prepared using the official Catalyx : Journal of Process Chemistry and Technology manuscript template.
✓ Similarity Check
The manuscript has been checked using plagiarism-detection software and does not exceed the similarity threshold established by the Editorial Board.
✓ Publication Ethics and Safety
The author has read and agrees to comply with the journal's publication ethics, authorship requirements, laboratory and process-safety principles, data-integrity requirements, AI-use policy, and publication fee policy where applicable.
✓ Online Submission
The article is submitted through the official Catalyx : Journal of Process Chemistry and Technology online submission system.

1. General Author Guidelines

  1. All contributors who wish to submit manuscripts to Catalyx : Journal of Process Chemistry and Technology must comply with these Author Guidelines and the journal's official manuscript template.
  2. The journal aims to advance and disseminate scholarly knowledge in process chemistry, chemical engineering, industrial chemistry, catalysis, reaction engineering, separation processes, process optimization, materials, sustainable chemical technology, chemical-process development, and related applied chemical fields. The journal welcomes original research articles, conceptual analyses, technical studies, and literature reviews that fall within its aims and scope.
  3. Submitted manuscripts undergo a blind peer-review process. Before review, the Editorial Team conducts an initial screening to assess conformity with the journal's scope, manuscript format, scientific quality, methodological soundness, technical validity, safety reporting, originality, and ethical requirements.
  4. Manuscripts that do not comply with the required format may be returned to the authors for correction before being forwarded to reviewers.
  5. Reviewers evaluate the appropriateness of the topic, experimental design, analytical validity, reaction or process methodology, reproducibility, scientific significance, originality, contribution to chemical or process technology, quality of interpretation, safety reporting, and adequacy and recency of references.
  6. Editorial decisions may include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, resubmission, or rejection. The final publication decision remains under the authority of the Editor.
  7. The journal uses plagiarism-detection software such as Turnitin or iThenticate. Manuscripts exceeding the similarity threshold established by the Editorial Board will not be processed further.
  8. Authors must confirm that the manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.
  9. Authors take full responsibility for compliance with publication ethics, including authorship, research integrity, experimental-data accuracy, chemical identification, analytical validation, appropriate citation, laboratory and process safety, conflict-of-interest disclosure, and research ethics.
  10. Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's official online submission system, accompanied by the required author declaration or other supporting documents where requested by the Editorial Board.

2. Manuscript Format

Authors are strongly advised to prepare their manuscripts directly using the official Catalyx : Journal of Process Chemistry and Technology template to minimize formatting discrepancies during editorial screening and production.

3. Structure of the Manuscript

The manuscript should be logically organized and demonstrate a clear relationship between the chemical or process problem, scientific foundation, method, experimental or computational findings, discussion, conclusion, and academic contribution.

3.1 Title

The title must accurately reflect the central content and contribution of the article. It should be concise, specific, informative, and academically meaningful within process chemistry and chemical technology.

  • Maximum recommended length: 16–20 words.
  • Do not include the year of research unless scientifically necessary.
  • Avoid uncommon abbreviations.
  • Place the main chemical process, material, catalyst, reaction, or technology before secondary explanations.
  • The title should reflect the principal chemical system, process variable, catalyst, material, analytical method, operating condition, or contribution where relevant.

3.2 Author Names and Affiliations

  • Write the author's full name without academic or professional titles.
  • Provide the author's institutional affiliation.
  • Affiliations should identify the institution clearly and consistently.
  • Provide the institution's location/address as required by the template.
  • Provide a valid email address for each author where required.
  • The corresponding author must be clearly identified.
  • The corresponding author's email and telephone number must be provided separately where required.
  • Authors are strongly encouraged to provide their ORCID iD.

3.3 Abstract

Required Format: English • 150–250 words • Single paragraph • No subheadings • No bullet points • No citations

The abstract must form one continuous and coherent paragraph. It should communicate the essence of the article without requiring readers to consult the main text.

The abstract should logically incorporate the following elements:

1 Background and significance of the chemical, catalytic, process, material, or technology problem
2 Specific problem, research question, or technical objective
3 Experimental, analytical, computational, or process method and principal materials or data
4 Principal findings, performance, conversion, yield, selectivity, efficiency, or other relevant outcomes
5 Theoretical, methodological, experimental, technical, or process contribution
6 Main conclusion and practical, industrial, or sustainability implication
Writing Note: Methods and findings should normally be written in the past tense, while the conclusion and contribution may be expressed in the present tense where appropriate.

3.4 Keywords

Provide three to five keywords immediately below the abstract. Keywords should represent the principal concepts of the article and assist readers and indexing systems in discovering the manuscript.

  • Use specific and academically meaningful terms.
  • Prefer terms commonly recognized in process chemistry, catalysis, reaction engineering, separation, materials, chemical engineering, or industrial chemistry.
  • Avoid unnecessarily broad words such as “chemistry” or “technology” when a more specific term is available.
  • Use lower case except for chemical names, abbreviations, materials, methods, or terms that conventionally require capitalization.

3.5 Introduction

The Introduction should normally be approximately one to two pages. It must be written as a coherent academic narrative without unnecessary subheadings, numbering, or bullet points in the manuscript.

The Introduction should establish:

  1. the chemical, catalytic, process-engineering, materials, separation, or industrial-technology problem and its scientific or practical significance;
  2. the specific problem and research question(s) or technical objective(s);
  3. the scientific and process complexity of the problem;
  4. relevant previous studies and the current state of the art;
  5. the literature, process-performance, materials, methodological, or technology gap;
  6. the novelty or distinctive contribution of the study; and
  7. clear research objectives.
Mandatory Novelty Statement
A clear Novelty Statement must appear near the end of the Introduction, immediately before the research objective statement. In one or two concise sentences, it must identify the gap in existing chemical or process-technology scholarship and explain what distinguishes the present catalyst, reaction pathway, process condition, material, separation method, model, or technology from previous research.

3.6 Method

The Method section must provide sufficient information to allow readers to understand, assess, and where appropriate reproduce or replicate the experimental, analytical, or computational procedures.

The methodological approach must be clearly identified, such as laboratory experiment, process experiment, catalyst synthesis and evaluation, material synthesis and characterization, reaction-kinetics study, separation-process investigation, process optimization, simulation, computational chemistry, process modeling, scale-up study, literature review, systematic review, or another appropriate design.

The Method section should normally address:
  • Research Type / Experimental or Computational Design
  • Materials, Chemicals, Reagents, Catalysts, Solvents, Feedstocks, and Their Purity or Source
  • Equipment, Reactor Configuration, Analytical Instruments, Software, or Computational Tools
  • Experimental Conditions, including temperature, pressure, concentration, pH, residence time, flow rate, catalyst loading, or other relevant operating variables
  • Synthesis, Reaction, Separation, Processing, or Sample-Preparation Procedures
  • Characterization and Analytical Methods
  • Data Analysis, Kinetic Analysis, Modeling, Optimization, or Statistical Procedures
  • Validation, Replication, Uncertainty, Quality Control, or Reproducibility Procedures, where relevant
  • Safety, Hazard Control, Waste Handling, and Environmental Considerations, where applicable

Authors must provide sufficient detail on chemical identity, reagent purity, experimental conditions, analytical instrumentation, calibration, replication, uncertainty, and data-processing procedures to support reproducibility. Hazardous chemicals, pressurized systems, high-temperature processes, reactive materials, toxic substances, or other significant hazards must be reported with appropriate safety precautions. Waste disposal and environmental considerations should be described where relevant.

3.7 Results

The Results section presents the principal experimental, analytical, computational, or process-performance findings in a clear, systematic, and objective manner.

  • Present findings according to the research questions, process objectives, experimental variables, hypotheses, or analytical themes.
  • Use processed and summarized data rather than raw instrument or software output.
  • Clearly report relevant values such as conversion, yield, selectivity, efficiency, rate constants, adsorption capacity, separation factor, purity, energy requirement, or other domain-appropriate metrics.
  • For catalyst or material studies, clearly report characterization results and their relationship to performance.
  • For optimization studies, report the optimized conditions and sufficient statistical or modeling evidence supporting the selected optimum.
  • For process simulations, report assumptions, boundary conditions, validation, and principal model outputs.
  • Tables, spectra, chromatograms, micrographs, process diagrams, kinetic plots, response surfaces, or other figures may be used when they improve clarity.
  • Avoid duplicating identical information in text, tables, and figures.
  • Important findings should be explained in the text rather than merely displayed.

3.8 Discussion

The Discussion must move beyond description by explaining the chemical, mechanistic, process, materials, and technological significance of the findings.

Interpret the key experimental, analytical, or computational findings.
Explain the chemical mechanism, reaction behavior, transport phenomenon, material property, or process factor underlying the findings where appropriate.
Compare the findings with relevant previous studies, catalysts, materials, technologies, or process conditions.
Identify improvements, trade-offs, differences, contradictions, or extensions of existing knowledge.
Explain theoretical, methodological, process, industrial, environmental, energy-efficiency, or sustainability implications.
Address limitations related to scale, reproducibility, analytical uncertainty, process stability, material availability, safety, environmental impact, or other relevant constraints.

3.9 Conclusion

The Conclusion should present the essence of the study in paragraph form without numbering. It must directly correspond with the research objectives and findings.

The Conclusion should:

  • restate the research or technical objective concisely;
  • summarize the principal experimental, analytical, or process findings;
  • answer the research question(s) or indicate achievement of the process objective;
  • state the chemical, process, industrial, environmental, sustainability, and/or theoretical implications;
  • identify the academic contribution;
  • acknowledge relevant limitations; and
  • provide appropriate directions for future research, optimization, scale-up, or technology development.
Mandatory Academic Contribution Statement
An Academic Contribution Statement must be included in the Conclusion, after the principal conclusion and before the limitations paragraph. In approximately two to three sentences, authors should explain how the study extends, challenges, refines, or enriches existing chemical knowledge, reaction understanding, process methodology, material performance, technological design, or empirical evidence.
Important: Do not introduce new data, new experiments, new literature, or new arguments in the Conclusion.

3.10 Acknowledgments

Authors may acknowledge individuals, laboratories, institutions, industrial partners, technical personnel, instrument operators, analytical facilities, material suppliers, or other parties that supported the research or publication process but do not meet the criteria for authorship.

3.11 Declarations

Authors must provide the relevant declarations to ensure transparency, accountability, safety, reproducibility, and research integrity. The declaration section should include Author Contributions, Funding, Conflict of Interest, Generative Artificial Intelligence Use, Ethics Approval where applicable, Safety and Hazard Statement where relevant, and Data Availability.

Author Contributions

Authors must clearly state the contribution of each author to the research and preparation of the manuscript. Catalyx : Journal of Process Chemistry and Technology encourages the use of the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy), including, where applicable, conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data curation, formal analysis, software, validation, visualization, writing—original draft, writing—review and editing, resources, supervision, project administration, and funding acquisition.

Funding

Authors must identify all sources of financial support for the research, including the name of the funding agency and the grant or contract number, where applicable. Authors should also indicate whether the funder had any role in the experimental design, material selection, data collection, process modeling, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, or decision to publish. If the research received no external funding, this must be stated explicitly.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, industrial, commercial, patent-related, material-supplier, technology-licensing, personal, or other interests that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research, interpretation of findings, or publication of the manuscript.

Recommended statement when no conflict exists:
“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
Generative Artificial Intelligence Use Statement

Authors must disclose the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI), Large Language Models (LLMs), or other AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of the manuscript or research workflow, where applicable.

Relevant uses may include AI-assisted writing, translation, programming, simulation support, chemical-data processing, process modeling, optimization assistance, visualization, literature synthesis, or other analytical activities.

Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, citations, chemical data, calculations, source code, process models, safety information, interpretation, and conclusions of their work. Generative AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors.

Where required by Catalyx : Journal of Process Chemistry and Technology, authors must also complete and sign the journal's Artificial Intelligence Declaration Form prior to publication. A brief statement confirming the use or non-use of Generative AI must remain included in the published manuscript.

Ethics Approval

For studies involving human participants, biological materials, environmental sampling subject to regulatory approval, or other activities requiring ethical or institutional oversight, authors must provide the relevant approval information, including the name of the approving institution or committee and approval number where applicable.

If ethics approval is not applicable to the study, this should be explicitly stated.

Safety and Hazard Statement

Authors must report significant hazards associated with chemicals, reactions, operating conditions, equipment, catalysts, materials, pressurized systems, high temperatures, toxic substances, flammable materials, corrosive reagents, or environmentally hazardous waste where relevant.

Where significant hazards are present, the manuscript should briefly describe the precautions, containment measures, protective procedures, or waste-management practices used to conduct the work safely and responsibly.

Data Availability Statement

Authors must indicate whether the data supporting the findings of the study are available and, where applicable, provide information on how the data can be accessed. This may include experimental datasets, spectra, chromatograms, characterization data, calibration information, kinetic data, simulation files, process models, optimization data, software scripts, or supplementary files.

Data may be made available through an institutional or disciplinary repository, as supplementary material, or from the corresponding author upon reasonable request. If data cannot be made publicly available because of confidentiality, intellectual-property, patent, licensing, commercial, contractual, safety, or other legitimate restrictions, the reason should be clearly stated.

Example of a Complete Declaration

Author Contributions: Author 1 conceptualized the study, developed the methodology, conducted the experiments and formal analysis, and prepared the original draft; Author 2 conducted material characterization, validated the experimental results, supervised the research, reviewed and edited the manuscript, and approved the final version.

Funding: This research received no external funding.

Conflict of Interest: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Generative Artificial Intelligence Use Statement: No Generative AI or Large Language Model was used to generate the scientific content, experimental data, analysis, interpretation, or conclusions of this manuscript.

Ethics Approval: Ethics approval was not applicable to this study.

Safety and Hazard Statement: All experimental procedures were conducted in accordance with appropriate laboratory safety procedures, including suitable handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and process waste.

Data Availability Statement: The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.

3.12 References

The reference list must contain only works cited in the manuscript. Every in-text citation must have a corresponding entry in the reference list, and every reference listed must be cited in the manuscript.

Recency References should primarily derive from publications within the past 10 years, except foundational chemical theories, classical reaction models, standard analytical methods, or historically important sources where scientifically justified.

Reference Consistency
Authors must carefully verify the consistency between in-text citations and the reference list. Missing references, uncited references, duplicate references, inaccurate DOI information, incomplete bibliographic information, and incorrect citations to chemical methods, datasets, software, standards, or characterization techniques should be corrected before submission.

4. Tables and Figures

Tables
Tables should present processed and summarized information rather than raw instrument, chromatographic, spectroscopic, simulation, or software output. Table numbers and titles must be positioned above the table.
Figures
Figures, reaction schemes, process-flow diagrams, spectra, chromatograms, micrographs, kinetic plots, response surfaces, simulation results, reactor diagrams, and other graphical materials must be clear, relevant, readable, and of sufficient quality for publication. Figure numbers and titles must be positioned below the figure.
Sources and Experimental Materials
The source of every table, figure, reaction scheme, material image, process diagram, analytical spectrum, or adapted visual material must be stated where applicable. Reproduced or adapted materials must be properly cited and comply with applicable copyright, licensing, and permissions requirements.

Oversized tables, extensive spectra, complete raw analytical outputs, large process diagrams, detailed parameter matrices, or supplementary experimental results that interrupt the readability of the manuscript should be moved to the Appendices or supplementary materials where appropriate.

5. Appendices

Appendices may contain detailed experimental procedures, supplementary characterization data, calibration information, reaction conditions, kinetic derivations, process parameters, simulation settings, additional spectra or chromatograms, uncertainty calculations, optimization matrices, supplementary tables, or other supporting materials that assist readers in understanding, reproducing, or evaluating the research but are not essential to the main narrative of the article.

Before You Submit

Final Manuscript Quality Check

Title is specific, informative, and consistent with the chemical, process, material, or technological focus of the manuscript.
Author names, affiliations, email addresses, ORCID iDs where available, and corresponding-author information are complete.
Abstract contains 150–250 words, contains no citations, and clearly presents the problem, method, principal findings, contribution, and conclusion.
Three to five relevant chemical or process-technology keywords are provided.
Introduction includes the state of the art, scientific or technical gap, novelty statement, and research objectives.
Materials, chemicals, purity, equipment, reaction or process conditions, analytical instruments, and experimental procedures are described sufficiently for reproducibility.
Calibration, replication, uncertainty, quality-control, validation, or model-verification procedures are reported where relevant.
Results directly address the research questions or process objectives and report appropriate chemical, material, or performance indicators.
Discussion compares findings with previous chemical or process studies and explains mechanisms, trade-offs, and implications.
Conclusion answers the research objectives and contains the mandatory Academic Contribution Statement.
Significant chemical, reaction, equipment, process, and waste hazards are identified and appropriate safety information is provided where applicable.
Author contributions, funding, conflict of interest, Generative AI use, ethics, safety, and data availability are properly declared where applicable.
References follow APA 7th Edition and meet the journal's quantity, relevance, quality, and recency requirements.
The manuscript has been proofread, checked for similarity, and verified for chemical-data integrity, experimental reproducibility, analytical accuracy, responsible AI use, and laboratory/process safety before submission.
